prothrombin
[pr??'?r?mb?n]
¦ noun Biochemistry a protein present in blood plasma which is converted into active thrombin during coagulation.
Prothrombin time
  • Vacutainer tube used for PT and PTT blood tests
  • A Roche CoaguChek XS.
  • Patient testing with microINR from iLine Microsystems
PROTHROMBIN TIME
International normalised ratio; Prothrombin ratio; International normalized ratio; Prothrombin time test; Quick's test; International Normalized Ratio; Quick's thrombin time; Protime; PT-INR; Activated prothrombin time; International Sensitivity Index
The prothrombin time (PT) – along with its derived measures of prothrombin ratio (PR) and international normalized ratio (INR) – is an assay for evaluating the extrinsic pathway and common pathway of coagulation. This blood test is also called protime INR and PT/INR.
Thrombin
Thrombin (, fibrinogenase, thrombase, thrombofort, topical, thrombin-C, tropostasin, activated blood-coagulation factor II, blood-coagulation factor IIa, factor IIa, E thrombin, beta-thrombin, gamma-thrombin) is a serine protease, an enzyme that, in humans, is encoded by the F2 gene. Prothrombin (coagulation factor II) is proteolytically cleaved to form thrombin in the clotting process.

Thrombin

Thrombin (EC 3.4.21.5, fibrinogenase, thrombase, thrombofort, topical, thrombin-C, tropostasin, activated blood-coagulation factor II, blood-coagulation factor IIa, factor IIa, E thrombin, beta-thrombin, gamma-thrombin) is a serine protease, an enzyme that, in humans, is encoded by the F2 gene. Prothrombin (coagulation factor II) is proteolytically cleaved to form thrombin in the clotting process. Thrombin in turn acts as a serine protease that converts soluble fibrinogen into insoluble strands of fibrin, as well as catalyzing many other coagulation-related reactions.

Ejemplos de uso de prothrombin
1. Their prothrombin gene makes a transcript that pours out prothrombin.
2. A second example involves the gene for the blood–clotting protein called prothrombin.
3. In its most common form, this gene contains a stretch of nucleotides near one end that makes it hard for the cell to translate the mRNA transcript into the prothrombin protein.
